Love your enemies

in Blog by MV on July 31st, 2009

coals

This has to be one of the toughest commands in the Bible and is part of the “turn the other cheek” and “suffer as Christ suffered for you” side of Christianity that we like to ignore here in the prosperous, now-centred West.

I have just left a company where I had the boss from hell. He had no redeeming qualities, apart from being elsewhere most of the time. He made my life miserable and I suppose I allowed him to get under my skin, but I couldn’t help it.

So love this guy?? I think not.

I would rather heap burning coals on his head.

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:20)

Oh dear, failed miserably again.

Follower?

Wordpress unfortunately does not have the equivalent of Blogger’s “follower” concept so I have set up a Google Friend’s connect widget if you would like to “join” Mulled Vine.

Grace

in Six Sentence by MV on July 29th, 2009

rose
She had that quality that is so rare in our graceless society: a true selflessness. Oh we all claim to be selfless in some respects, but if are honest and look beneath the veneer we soon find the hidden reward, the warm glow of smug self-righteousness, or perhaps the promise of eternal rewards. Grace however, was not like this, and I know because she loved me. She loved me when I married her, she loved me when I lied and cheated on her, she loved me when I beat her, and she even loved me when I finally killed her. It was not a warm, fuzzy kind of love; it was the love of Loves, the enduring love of the Lamb, the love that crushed me in its embrace and broke my heart. I don’t why she loved me so but perhaps one day, when I am spent trying to echo her love, I will be given grace to meet her again and to say how truly sorry I am.

Fortune

in Six Sentence by MV on July 29th, 2009

fortune
I found £10 lying on the pavement the other day. I couldn’t believe my luck, checked to see if anyone was looking, and picked it up. I did think briefly about handing it in, but that soon passed and I quickly pocketed my find. Starbucks was nearby, so I went in and ordered a Grange Mocha with cream and chocolate sprinkles, as well as a Super Deluxe Cranberry Muffin. It was obviously my lucky day because I then found a seat next to the window where I could watch the passers by. My excellent day was only slightly marred when I noticed a little girl sitting on the pavement near to where I’d found the money, crying.

Communal Changing Rooms

in Blog by MV on July 29th, 2009

changingroom
It struck me the other day in the gym that communal changing rooms haven’t really caught up with society’s apparent acceptance of homosexuality. Such changing rooms are currently segregated into male and female, which means that if you are homosexual you presumably have a visual feast when you are in the changing room. So should communal changing rooms be segregated further, or even better, be done away with completely? I personally would rather not be ogled when I’m getting changed, so I’d say yes.

But I wonder why this doesn’t bother other people.

Or perhaps this is an indication that homosexuality is not really as widely accepted or expected as the gay lobbies would like us to believe?

Dust Deserts

in Six Sentence by MV on July 28th, 2009

Sunlight through the Trees
The sun beamed brightly through the bay window, casting broad unwelcome rays of dust into my lounge. I had often wondered where dust came from, but now it was clear: the sun had been caught en flagrante delicto as it were. So I did the necessary, and wrote a letter to the relevant authorities about this wilful misdemenour. I must confess, I didn’t expect anything to be done and forgot about the whole thing completely, until one fateful day when the sun did not rise. Rumour has it that they sent it to the naughty corner in the Magellan Clouds.

An ironic dustice.

She loves me not

in Six Sentence by MV on July 27th, 2009

daisy
“She loves me, she loves me not, …” I pulled the petals off one by one, seeking to answer the eternal question; it had been my brother’s idea, to seek the answer in this humble daisy, but alas the answer as I reached the last petal, was ‘not’. The truth grieved me greatly but there was nothing to do, the Fates had spoken and she was not to be my love. I threw the stalk into the bushes and turned in disgust to my brother who had been watching. He smiled sympathetically, “I guess it was not meant to be, Brother”, but I just shrugged and walked off to console myself. Perhaps if had I stayed a little longer I might have seen the gleam in his eye, and the clenched fist behind his back that held the first petal of my flower.
